The Best Way To Clean Ceramic Tile Floors

Ceramic floor tiles provide you with a great deal of variety and are generally fairly easy to clean – although not all people will agree regarding the ease of cleaning.

The grouting can easily become grimy and the tile surfaces are prone to scuff marks, streaks and stains just like every other type of flooring.

The trick is, however, to clean the tiles regularly in order to keep them looking brand new.

You need to make sure that you always wipe away spills before they have a chance to become a sticky, gooey mess.

Even dry spills, soil and dirt should be swept away or sucked up with a vacuum before they have a chance to turn moist and become far more difficult to remove.

These simple preventative measures should stop your ceramic tile floors from becoming so dirty that they end up needing an intense scrubbing.

However, if your floors are already that dirty, follow these steps for the best way to clean your ceramic tile floors and rejuvenate them:

Step 1 – The Cleaning Detergent

Most manufacturers will sell you expensive cleaning detergents that are supposedly designed for ceramic tile floors.

However, these are not always ideal and can leave a residue on the floor that is sticky and attracts dirt.

A simple solution of vinegar and water in the ratio of about 1:4 will clean the tiles just as well as any chemical cleaner without causing any damage.

The added benefit of this tile cleaning method is that it is inexpensive.

Step 2 – Sweep Or Vacuum

Use a soft bristle broom to sweep up all the loose dirt and debris or suck it up with the brush attachment on your vacuum.

Pay extra attention to the loose dirt and debris in the grouting and along the edges or corners of the floor.

Step 3 – Stubborn Dirt, Grime And Stains

Pour some vinegar and water into a spray bottle and spray directly onto the spots that need additional cleaning.

Don’t be afraid to really soak the areas and allow the solution to work for a few minutes (about 5 to 10 minutes should be good).

Use a soft scrubbing brush to remove the dirty marks and wipe away the excess moisture and dirt with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

This is also an excellent way to remove dirt that has collected in the grouting but you need to be careful not to scrub too hard.

Step 4 – Wash

A microfiber mop is by far the best tool to use to wash your floors. Simply dip the mop in the vinegar solution, squeeze out the extra moisture and begin washing.

Step 5 – Rinse And Dry

Use a soft cloth dipped in clean, hot water to rinse off any remaining dirt or detergent. Then dry the floor with a soft towel or cloth.

This process will prevent unwanted streaks and ensure that there is no sticky residue to attract dirt.

It is advisable to rinse and dry the floor tiles in sections in order to prevent them from drying before you have the chance to wipe them dry.

Voila! You should now have a clean floor that looks brand new.
